Purslane in Skin Care

Purslane in Skin Care

What can Purslane do for your health and your skin??

If I told you that this plant contains mucilaginous substances and gamma-linolenic acid (LNA, 18 : 3 w3) ascorbic acid, and alpha-linolenic acid, I guess you will just close this page and move on, as I myself did while making my own research. I will try to avoid all the scientific jargon, and keep it simple for us normal human beings :)

Purslane is a super food with the highest Omega 3 source found in any plants. It is loaded with antioxidant nutrients. It is also widely used in Chinese medicine as a plant to deal with diabetes and hypertension. It is said to help cure insomnia, protect against heart disease, cancer, reduce cholesterol, but there is not much evidence on those claims. All that said, if it can be part of your lunch or dinner as a food it can be highly beneficial.

Let’s dive in what concerns us today, it is a potent ingredient for your skin.

Here are its major properties:

Antioxidants:

It is loaded with vitamin A, vitamin C, it has seven times more beta carotene than carrots, six times more vitamin E that spinach. Those are all powerful nutrients protecting the skin from the impact of oxidation.

Anti-inflammation:

It is among the richest source of Omega 3 fatty Acids, very unusual from a plant as Omega 3 is mostly found in fish or flax seed.

Slowing Age:

With its Telomerase Activation properties it helps slow skin age by protecting the telomere length necessary to protect the chromosome from deterioration.

Essential Minerals:

It contains calcium, Iron, Potassium, magnesium which gives optimal regulation to the skin.

Healing plant:

Originally from India, Purslane has been used as a medicinal plant for more than 4000 years to heal wounds and burns with its anti-fungal properties.

This is no doubt something your skin can indulge itself into!
